Every Super League side’s quota situation as three have space for further recruitment

Super League Trophy

Super League sides have now had enough time to really kick their recruitment drive into gear ahead of the 2025 season.

Pre-season has now started, and we’re seeing new signings from all over the league start to train with their new sides – many of them being stars from overseas.

Clubs are allowed a maximum of seven ‘non-Federation trained players’ in their squad – and these players are defined as those that didn’t play three seasons of rugby in Europe before they turned 21.

With that in mind, here’s every current Super League side’s quota situation ahead of 2025 – and whether they have any space to make further overseas signings.

The side’s only new signing before the end of the 2024 season was Zac Cini from Parramatta Eels – a much-needed centre contracted through 2026.

This meant they went into the off-season with three free quota spots to utilise, after Jacob Miller, Elie El-Zakhem and Nixon Putt were all allowed to go elsewhere, despite all having a year left on their contracts.

Daejarn Asi and Judah Rimbu were both signed on two-year deal in quick succession, leaving the side with a healthy-looking set of backs but in need of a forward.

Now, their final quota spot has been filled with second-rower Jeremiah Simbiken from Norths Devils, meaning they’ll now have to focus recruitment on domestic players.

Siosiua Taukeiaho, Jayden Nikorima, Jarrod Wallace, Manu Ma’u, Ben Lam and Matt Ikuvalu are all 2024 quota players that have now left the club.

That leaves just Chris Satae, Tariq Sims and Bayley Sironen contracted through 2025 of their current players.

Tevita Pangai Junior, signed from The Dolphins, will also have his contract up in 2025, while Luke Keary and Nick Cotric through 2027 have also been added to the side.

Therefore, they have one spot left to make a further overseas signing.

Esan Marsters, Kevin Naiqama and Sebastine Ikahihifo left, but staying on for 2026 is Tui Lolohea, entering his fourth season with the Giants since a move from Salford Red Devils.

Joining him are new quota signings for 2025 – Jack Murchie and Adam Clune.

That left the Giants with four quota spots but two have been filled with new recruits in the form of Zac Woolford, son of former Huddersfield head coach Simon, and recent signing Jacob Gagai.

Taane Milne’s arrival means that Huddersfield Giants have just one overseas quota spot available.

Hull FC

It has been a year full of change for Hull FC, and that includes their quota players.

All of Tex Hoy, Nu Brown, Jayden Okunbor and Franklin Pele left mid-season, giving them four new spots to play with, while Carlos Tuimavave also left at the end of the year.

Jed Cartwright was signed mid-season from Newcastle Knights, and is contracted through 2025, while Ligi Sao has another year of his contract, and Herman Ese’ese has another two.

Jordan Rapana and Aidan Sezer have both signed on two-year deals, meaning they’ll be contracted through 2026.

Finally, new signings John Asiata and Cade Cust will take up a spot, and are contracted through 2027 – leaving the Airlie Birds with no free spots for 2025.

Hull KR

Peta Hiku, Kelepi Tanginoa and Jai Whitbread all signed three-year deals, so they’re contracted with the club through 2026.

Meanwhile, Sauaso Sue has one more year on his contract.

Another with a contract up after 2025 is half-back Tyrone May, whose fruitful partnership with Mikey Lewis is expected to continue into the future.

However, neither Tom Opacic or Matt Parcell stuck around, and will be replaced by Rhyse Martin, signed from Leeds Rhinos, and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, an NRL icon who is Sydney Roosters’ most-capped player – and will hope to help the Robins bounce back after Grand Final heartbreak.

This means they’ve filled all seven spots, and could only make further overseas signings if they release a player early, as they did with Tom Opacic.

The Rhinos are another side that have released players to have space to make overseas signings.

Lachlan Miller and Matt Frawley are both contracted through next year, while Miller’s deal also runs through the 2026 season, but David Fusitu’a and Rhyse Martin have departed.

They have been replaced by Keenan Palasia and Cooper Jenkins, forwards from Down Under, until the end of 2026.

Sam Lisone has been a regular off the bench over the past two seasons, and is contracted for another year.

Meanwhile, Brodie Croft has two more years left on the three-year contract he signed ahead of this season.

Paul Momirovski was released by the club to allow for Maika Sivo to take the final spot – understandably, as he is an elite try-scorer heading over to Super League.

Leigh Leopards

John Asiata, Tom Amone, Kai O’Donnell and Ricky Leutele have all left the club, while Matt Moylan announced retirement.

However, remaining at the club through 2025 is Edwin Ipape, while Aaron Pene could stay until the end of 2026.

Joining the side for next year will be David Armstrong, a full-back signed on a three-year deal.

They have also signed Tesi Niu, Ben Condon and Isaac Liu from NRL sides.

This leaves one free spot for the Leopards to make another signing, with the side having to play catch-up due to so many departures.

Salford Red Devils

Cade Cust has left for Hull FC, but Loghan Lewis has had his contract extended for 2025.

Tim Lafai has one more year on his contract after joining for the 2022 season, and his contract is up at the same time as Jayden Nikorima‘s.

Longer contracts are in the hands of Australian second-row duo Sam Stone and Shane Wright, who are contracted through 2026.

The longest contracts of the current quota players, however, belong to Nene Macdonald and new signing Esan Marsters.

Not many changes for the Red Devils ahead of next year, and there likely won’t be any more – as they have filled all seven spots.

Sione Mata’utia and Waqa Blake have left, but plenty of players will still be around: Agnatius Paasi, Curtis Sironen, James Bell and Moses Mbye are all contracted for next season.

Joining them are new NRL signings Kyle Feldt and Tristan Sailor, who have signed on two-year deals and will be hoping to set Super League alight.

Konrad Hurrell‘s contract situation being undecided was making it unclear as to whether all their spots would be taken up or not, but now that it has confirmed that he’s staying on for 2025, they do indeed have seven of seven spots filled.

Caleb Uele, Renouf Atoni, and Luke Bain all have one more year on their contracts, while Lachlan Walmsley and Mason Lino have two.

New signing Seth Nikotemo is contracted through 2027, and the 20-year-old back-rower has signed from Gold Coast Titans.

Meanwhile, Ky Rodwell is contracted through 2028 after signing a big extra four-year deal this year – and they’re full on quota spots.

Warrington Wolves

Sam Kasiano’s release meant until the signing of Luke Yates, contracted through 2026, they had a spot free.

Josh Drinkwater left at the end of the season, while Rodrick Tai, Paul Vaughan and Zane Musgrove have a year left on their contract.

Luke Yates and Lachlan Fitzgibbon have another two years, but superstar full-back Matt Dufty has the longest contract – through 2027.

Drinkwater leaving allowed PNG international Dan Russell to sign for the club, meanwhile – so they have all seven spots filled.

Willie Isa remains at the club next year, and Adam Keighran has one more year, after signing from Catalans Dragons ahead of the current campaign.

Both Kaide Ellis and Patrick Mago are contracted through 2026, but the club has an option to extend Mago’s through 2027 if they wish.

On to some very long contracts, at least by Super League standards – Abbas Miski and Jai Field are contracted through 2027, while the reigning Man of Steel Bevan French has another three years on his contract, keeping him in Super League until at least 2028.

Wigan are yet another Super League side with all their quota spots full, and it’s the same seven players as last year.
