Every Rugby League World Cup attendance so far as Hull FC’s and Leeds Rhinos’ grounds draw big crowds

Now that the second round of fixtures in the Rugby League World Cup have been and gone, it’s again a good time to reflect on the attendances the tournament has attracted.

Round Two wasn’t quite as impressive as Round One, though that’s largely down to England. Their first game at St James’ Park attracted over 43,000 fans whilst there were 20,000 less supporters at Bolton in Round Two.

However, no attendance for a non-England game was able to topple the attendance picked up by Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium as Australia met Fiji just hours after that England game on the first day of the tournament.

Australia’s second game did come close to that 13,000 total with 10,000 fans watching them beat Scotland in Coventry. Unlike Round One though, that and England were the only two games to reach five figures.

In Round One, England and Australia’s games were joined in that five figure club by Tonga at St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium but in the same ground this week they were just shy of 8,000 fans.

That narrowly beat out the attendance at Hull FC’s MKM Stadium as nearly 7,000 fans watched Jamaica score their first ever World Cup try against world number one ranked team New Zealand through former Leeds Rhinos man Ben Jones-Bishop on his 300th career appearance.

Most of the other attendances were again around 6000 whilst the game in Doncaster was again the lowest but was an improvement on the attendance last week.
