There are over 100 overseas players in Super League and a portion of those are off-contract at the end of the 2026 season, meaning some key contract negotiations need to take place this year.
It was confirmed last year that the overseas quota would increase from seven to ten but just two teams have taken full advantage of that, with Catalans Dragons and Hull FC maxing out and have ten overseas players in their squad.
Plenty of other teams have gone beyond the prior limit of seven though with only Hull KR, Leeds Rhinos, Toulouse Olympique, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors boasting seven or less.
Heading into the 2026 season, there are more than 110 overseas players contracted to Super League clubs but a total of 43 will see their contracts expire by the end of the year.
They’re all currently able to negotiate with rival clubs as well, should they wish, making the act of securing them to new deals a key priority.
Which overseas Super League players are off-contract?
Bradford Bulls (Caleb Aekins, Waqa Blake, Jayden Okunbor, Dan Russell, Mitch Souter)
It’s no surprise that Bradford have plenty of overseas players off contract with the Bulls one of the promoted trio who have had to recruit a lot of players late, including two of these off-contract overseas players.
Castleford Tigers (Daejarn Asi, Zac Cini, Joe Stimson)
It’s a new regime at Castleford and that’s seen a host of overseas players arrive but three remain without deals for 2026.
Catalans Dragons (Chris Satae)
Catalans are one of the two teams to have ten quota players and a whopping nine of them have deals beyond the end of 2026 with Chris Satae the only one without. It’s also worth noting that Toby Sexton, who is contracted to 2027 officially, has already signed with Perth Bears for 2027 so will be one overseas player guaranteed to leave.
Huddersfield Giants (Adam Clune, Jacob Gagai, Tui Lolohea, Taane Milne)
Four of Huddersfield’s overseas players are without deals beyond the end of the year, including two in their spine.
Hull FC (Jed Cartwright, Liam Knight, Ligi Sao)
Three overseas forwards don’t have deals beyond 2026 for the Black and Whites and they’ve all got plenty to prove, with Cartwright and Sao coming off the back of injury-plagued seasons.
Hull KR (Peta Hiku, Rhyse Martin, Sauaso Sue)
Three overseas stars from the Robins’ treble-winning side don’t have deals beyond 2026 with all three over the age of 30.
Leeds Rhinos (Brodie Croft, Jeremiah Mata’utia*, Keenan Palasia)
Jeremiah Mata’utia has just signed and there is an option to extend his deal but key duo Brodie Croft and Keenan Palasia don’t have such clauses.
Leigh Leopards (Isaac Liu, Aaron Pene)
Isaac Liu had a huge impact in his first season at Leigh and he and Pene are both off-contract.
St Helens (Kyle Feldt, Jackson Hastings, Agnatius Paasi, Tristan Sailor)
New signing Jackson Hastings only penned a one-year deal but it may be more interesting what Saints do with fellow spine player Tristan Sailor.
Toulouse Olympique (Calum Gahan, Brendan Hands, Reubenn Rennie, Paul Ulberg)
Toulouse, like Bradford and York, have a handful off-contract and that’s likely because of a lack of security over their Super League future.
Wakefield Trinity (Mason Lino, Lachlan Walmsley)
Mason Lino starred in 2025 but with Jack Sinfield arriving, his future remains unclear.
Warrington Wolves (Matt Dufty, Luke Yates)
Matt Dufty has seen the number one shirt taken away whilst Luke Yates is becoming a key part o the club’s leadership group.
Wigan Warriors (Patrick Mago*)
Wigan do have an option on Patrick Mago for the 2027 season.
York Knights (Jesse Dee, Scott Galeano, Ata Hingano, Jordan Lipp, Jack Martin, Toa Mata’afa)
A total of six Knights’ overseas players are without deals beyond 2026, the most of any Super League side.
