Former Featherstone Rovers and Hull FC man Manoa Wacokecoke has become Goole Vikings’ 16th signing as they continue to build for the new League One season.
The Vikings are preparing for their first season as a professional club, but head coach Scott Taylor will be feeling confident about his side’s ability to compete in the third tier as the additions continue to be made.
Wacokecoke started his career in the Hull FC academy but left the club in 2023 after failing to make a first-team appearance for the Black and Whites. He joined Championship side Featherstone for the 2024 campaign and scored seven tries in 11 appearances.
However, he will be representing Goole next season, with the League One club pushing ahead with their recruitment. With that in mind, we take a look at who the Vikings have signed and how their squad building is progressing.
Jamie Shaul and Brett Ferres are undoubtedly the two most high profile and experienced members of the Goole squad. Ferres, a former England international joins the club from Doncaster, while Shaul has stepped out of retirement to play under his former Hull teammate Taylor.
Thomas Minns is no stranger to top flight rugby league either, with the centre having played for Wakefield Trinity, Leeds Rhinos Hull KR. He’ll add more much-needed experience to the Goole side.
Guzdek and youngster Ben Hodder complete the centre ranks so far, while Tom Halliday has joined the club from Doncaster to play on the wing.
Hull academy products Reece Dean, Mackenzie Harman and Callum Rutland provide coverage in the halves, while another former Black and White Jeylan Hodgson is the club’s sole hooker at present.
Ex-Rovers youngster Alex Holdstock and former Hull forward Jack Aldous are the only front rowers at present, while Aldous’ brother Harry has also joined the club.
Lennon Bursell has joined to play loose-forward and he makes that eight former Hull players in the Goole side so far, with former York Knights and Newcastle Thunder man Ben Dent also joining the club.
The club still have a host of signings to announce, but they’ll find out their path through the 2025 League One season later this month when the League One fixtures are announced.
