London Broncos 22-28 Hull Kingston Rovers

Hull Kingston Rovers beat London Broncos 28-22 in a hard-fought battle at Trailfinders Sports Ground. Jamie Ellis was pivotal for the Robins alongside Jordan Abdull as the Robins survived a late fightback from the Broncos in the capital.

London opened the scoring after seven minutes through Jarrod Sammut, who converted his own try for an early 6-0 lead. Three consecutive tries for the Robins put Tim Sheens’ side in a good position before the half-time break. Abdull, Ellis and Kieren Moss all touched down for the East Yorkshire outfit, who went into the sheds with a 16-6 lead.

After the restart, Sammut completed his brace to cut the deficit to just four points and give London a fighting chance for the rest of the half. However, two tries in the space of five minutes looked to have wrapped up the win for Hull KR. Andrew Heffernan and Ryan Shaw were the try-scorers for the visitors, who then had to deal with a strong response from the Londoners as they set up a grandstand finish.

Former Robin Kieran Dixon and Adrian Purtell both crossed the whitewash for Andrew Henderson’s side, who were four points behind with 15 minutes remaining. They couldn’t force another try though and the visitors were able to hang on, with help from an Ellis penalty in the last minute.
