Hull Kingston Rovers 48-0 Oldham RLFC

A stellar defensive performance saw Hull Kingston Rovers leave Oldham on a blank while scoring 48 points to avenge their Challenge Cup defeat of last year. Thomas Minns scored twice for the Robins while six of his teammates also got on the scoresheet to complete their biggest win of the season thus far.

The hosts were 30-0 up at half-time after tries from Minns, Shaun Lunt, James Donaldson, Nick Scruton and Jordan Abdull. Jamie Ellis was on target with every conversion as the former Super League club gave their fans a lot to cheer in the opening 40 minutes.

The second period saw less points as Tim Sheens’ side were limited to three tries by an Oldham defence that has caused problems for teams in the past. Scruton was sin-binned for dangerous contact in the minutes before Ellis touched down for the first score of the final 40 minutes. Following on, Kieren Moss and Minns also crossed for the East Yorkshire side who have won four games from as many matches to start their Championship season.

  1. Rovers didn’t even have their minds on last year’s cup defeat. Moving forward and getting four home matches in the Middle 8’s is the first objective. It’s a big ask defeating SL teams but Leigh showed the way last year.
