Huddersfield Giants 44-4 Warrington Wolves

The prospect of last year’s Grand Finalists Warrington fighting for their Super League lives in the Qualifiers is now more real than ever after a 44-4 defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium.

It’s a result that puts Huddersfield above the Wolves having played a game less, as the Giants made the most of their extra rest to brush aside Tony Smith’s side.

The home side opened the scoring early on when Oliver Roberts crashed over and returning playmaker Danny Brough set up the next score after a brilliant 40/20.

This led to England winger Jermaine McGillvary grabbing the Giants’ second four-pointer after a superb pass from hooker Kruise Leeming.

Huddersfield’s advantage was taken out to 14-0 on the half-hour mark when a fine passing move allowed Aaron Murphy space to race over.

Warrington needed a much-improved second half but it began in the worst possible fashion as forward Paul Clough found a gap with Brough adding the extras to make it 20-0.

It was turning into an afternoon to remember for the Giants and debutant Jordan Turner got his name on the score sheet when he took an offload from Dale Ferguson to pounce.

There was a temporary shift in momentum when Tom Lineham crossed but normal service was resumed on the hour-mark when Jake Mamo got in on the act after good work from Leroy Cudjoe and McGillvary.

McGillvary was having a superb afternoon and he heaped more misery on the woeful Wolves when he finished off another flowing move, Brough’s conversion made it 38-4 going into the last quarter.

Murphy then grabbed his second try of the afternoon to put the icing on the cake for Rick Stone’s side, Brough’s conversion making the final score a resounding 44-4 on another poor day at the office for Warrington.
