Castleford Tigers 52-16 Huddersfield Giants

Castleford Tigers 54-4 Wigan Warriors

Luke Gale and Joel Monaghan both scored second-half hat-tricks as Super League leaders Castleford thumped Huddersfield at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

An early Ryan Hinchcliffe try gave the Giants the lead, but tries from Ben Roberts, Jake Webster and Mike McMeeken put the Tigers 12 points ahead at half time.

The Giants opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Ukuma Ta’ai offloaded to Hinchcliffe who twisted and turned to score. Ryan Brierley missed the conversion from wide on the right, 0-4.

The hosts thought they were in moments later when Greg Eden was almost over the line, but Gale’s final pass was just too high for the winger to haul in.

Castleford were on the scoreboard in the 19th minute. After a great offload from Zak Hardaker, Gale grubber-kicked towards the try line where Roberts was able to scoop the ball and score. Gale converted from in front, 6-4.

Roberts turned provider three minutes later when he shook away from a couple of defenders before Webster powered over to touch down. Gale missed the conversion from out wide, 10-4.

The Tigers looked to have been setting up for a kick, but McMeeken came crashing onto the ball to power his way over in the 27th minute. Gale kicked the conversion, 16-4.

The hosts opened the scoring in the second half. Eden streaked down the sideline and passed back inside to Gale who was able to finish it off and score in the 41st minute. Gale missed the conversion, 20-4.

Castleford scored their fifth try of the evening two minutes later when Adam Milner powered his way through the Giants defence and then dummied the full back on his way to the try line. Gale kicked the simple conversion, 26-4.

The Giants reduced the deficit in the 49th minute when Brierley broke through the Tigers defence from the scrum and just had the speed to race away from Hardaker. Brierley converted his own try, 26-10.

Castleford were next to touch down, Gale scoring his 100th career try after a break from Webster. Gale converted his own try, 32-10.

Monaghan finished off a silky left-to-right move from the Tigers with an acrobatic finish in the 56th minute. Gale missed from the touchline, 36-10.

McShane broke from dummy half and sliced through the defence before finding Gale for his hat-trick in the 57th minute. Gale was successful with the boot, 42-10.

Cas further extended their lead six minutes later when Rangi Chase set up Monaghan for his second of the night. Gale missed from the sideline, 46-10.

The Giants were next to score. Brierley’s kick hit the post pad and Roberts and Chase were unable to collect. Lee Gaskell then won the race to the ball to score. Brierley converted the try, 46-16.

Huddersfield thought they were in again in the 72nd minute, Alex Mellor got over the line but was held up by the Tigers defenders.

McMeeken offloaded to Chase and then his grubber saw Monaghan over for his hat-trick three minutes from the final hooter. Gale converted the try, 52-16.

The Tigers won comfortably as Monaghan and Gale both scored hat-tricks.
