Castleford Tigers 36-16 Warrington Wolves

Greg Eden England

Greg Eden scored five tries as Castleford extended their lead at the top of the Super League table with a 36-16 win against Warrington.

The win was secured in the opening 20 minutes as the Tigers raced into a 20-0 lead with the brilliant rugby we have come accustomed to them producing in 2017.

It took just two minutes for Eden to open the scoring as he latched onto Luke Gale’s high kick which bounced off Kevin Penny and straight into the winger’s hands.

The lead was extended on the 10-minute mark as Gale, Zak Hardaker and Michael Shenton combined to send Eden over for his second.

Warrington had a hill to climb and that became a mountain when Mike McMeeken got the hosts third try a minute later as he profited from more good work from Gale and Nathan Massey.

Now 20-0 down, the Wolves briefly stemmed the tide when Declan Patton found Tom Lineham with a long pass to score but normal service was resumed just shy of the half hour, Eden completing his hat-trick after a break from Ben Roberts and an excellent pass from Jese Sene-Lefao.

Three became four for Eden the other side of half-time after another break from Roberts, with the prolific winger crossing for his fifth in the 52nd minute to take the lead out to 36-6.

Tony Smith’s side hit back when Joe Westerman dummied his way over and they finished strongly as Jack Hughes showed great strength in the corner.

The damage had already been done though as Daryl Powell’s side, as they have done so often this season, blew their opposition away with a scintillating 20-minute period at the start of the game.

For Warrington it was another disappointing defeat as they stare down the barrel at a place in the Qualifiers.
