Evalds reveals why he joined Cas over interested rival clubs

Niall Evalds was a Salford man through-and-through before he signed for Castleford ahead of the upcoming campaign.

But, the elusive fullback has revealed that the Tigers were not the only club chasing him and that it was down to Daryl Powell as to why he chose the West Yorkshire side.

“There were talks with other clubs, but as soon as I spoke to Powelly and he sold the vision of the club and what we could do together, the decision was made,” Evalds stated.

“He told me how he could improve me as a player and how I could fit into the team.

“It was purely a rugby decision, I wanted to become the player I want to be and I think this will bring the best out of me.

“He really challenges me as I’m quite a quiet guy and he tests me every day in training.”

Signing a one-year deal would make most players look to this season as make-or-break, but Evalds is keen to just put his head down and aim to improve his game.

“My focus is just on this year, things like that future deals will take care of themselves.

“I’m just concentrating on training hard and getting into the team each week.”
