Eorl Crabtree names “the best team that’s ever been in Super League”

Tonight Eorl Crabtree’s former club the Huddersfield Giants face their sternest test as potential title contenders as they take on Super League and World Champions St Helens.

The Saints, after their amazing World Club Challenge win against Penrith Panthers, have only won two of their first four games in Super League but to Crabtree they are still the best ever team in Super League.

He said on the Last Tackle Podcast on the Sportsman YouTube channel:

“From the outside Saints are the best team that’s ever been in Super League, for me.

“They had to get themselves up to go to Australia to win the biggest game, one that this country needed as well by the way. I think it was absolutely huge for rugby league nationally.

“Our beautiful game which we need to progress and need to grow, Saints needed to win that and they had to get themselves up for that.

“It’s then quite difficult to go back to the next few rounds of Super League, it’s a step down to reality almost. The teams like Leigh who are always going to get themselves up for a game against St Helens, it’s going to be difficult and they’re going to be tested.

“It’s a long season, Saints have been doing this for the last five or six years. A couple of times across the season it won’t go their way, they’ll have an off day or they’ll rest players. It doesn’t matter, Saints are the best team and they are for a reason. They’ll get themselves back in a position to really challenge for the end of the season.”
