Englishman set to become the fastest player in the NRL

Newcastle Knights winger and former Huddersfield Giants starlet Dominic Young is set to become the fastest player in the NRL competition in 2022.

Josh Addo-Carr remains the fastest man Down Under, but the Daily Telegraph had previously tipped Young to hunt him down.

In his debut NRL season in 2021, Young recorded a top speed of 37.4km/h – placing him fourth best among all players, behind Addo-Carr, Jason Saab and Xavier Coates.

It’s a remarkable statistic when considering  the youngster played only six first grade games.

And, the high performance coach at the Knights, Hayden Knowles, has given Young high praise indeed.

“Dom blows everyone away up here,” Knowles revealed before Christmas.

“And we haven’t even got the boys hitting top speeds yet.

“Physically, he boasts the type of attributes you could train 10 years for and never have. Just his size, his stride length, and of course he has those Jamaican bloodlines.

“They’re resources others just don’t have.

“So when you’re talking about that mythical finals race for NRL fastest man, Dom has to be in it.

“In terms of top speed, nobody has seen him at his best yet.”

It’s not clear cut whether Young will nail down a permanent spot in the Newcastle side in the 2022 NRL season, but he told the Newcastle Herald that he is aiming to become the best winger at the club – not just the fastest.
