England star returns to Salford Red Devils ahead of 2023 season

With pre-season training getting into full swing for teams across England we’ve seen a number of key players or new signings return and Salford Red Devils are the latest side to be bolstered by a returning star.

Andy Ackers was rewarded with an England call-up after an excellent season with Salford and featured in two of England’s World Cup matches.

Ackers impressed, scoring two tries in a 94-4 victory over Greece and has now returned to Salford to take part in pre-season.

The Red Devils announced his return via Twitter and he looked delighted to be taking to the practice field again alongside his Salford teammates.

A hugely impressive start to last season’s campaign saw Ackers offered a one-year extension on his expiring deal and he’ll now aim to make the playoffs again in 2023.

The 28-year-old hooker joined Salford after impressing with Toronto Wolfpack and his incredible work rate earned him a spot in Shaun Wane’s World Cup squad.

The Red Devils nilled high-flying Huddersfield in the first round of the playoffs last season before succumbing to eventual champions St Helens 19-12 in a game where Ackers had to leave the pitch early following a Head Injury Assessment.

Ackers will now take that international experience into the upcoming season where Salford will aim to go one better and return to the Grand Final for only a second time, following their 2019 loss.
