NRL England Las Vegas

It has been reported that Stuart Barrow’s England Women’s side will take on their Australian counterparts in the early spring in Las Vegas as part of the NRL season launch.

The game will be in addition to the two NRL games that will take place in Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium as the NRL continues to expand into America following the success of this year’s season launch back in March.

It’s expected that the 2025 fixtures will take place at a similar date and be confirmed very soon but with the addition of this international game between England and Australia, something that would take the profile of Women’s Rugby League to a whole new level.

This year, a crowd of 40,706 at Allegiant Stadium for their double-header and it’s reported by AAP News that the decision to have England face Australia will hopefully bring more English eyes to the event, both in stadium and on television.

It would be the first time that England have faced Australia since the 2017 World Cup, coincidentally also the last time the two Mens sides faced each other.

That game in Sydney was a 38-0 whitewash for the Jillaroos but with England having developed lots in the seven years since, it would be a brilliant test of the English team’s level to take on the World Champions.

Moreover, they’d do so on neutral ground so wouldn’t have to step into the Lion’s Den to try and claim the huge scalp. That World Cup down under was the start of major change with England losing three of their four games but having lost just of their 14 games since then.

One of those losses came in the World Cup Semi-Final against New Zealand when they lost 20-6 despite going ahead at the York Community Stadium through Fran Goldthorp.

Australia would go on to hammer New Zealand in the Final at Old Trafford as they ran out 54-4 winners before the Men’s side beat Samoa by another large scoreline of 30-10.

It’s evident that Australia are the dominant force in International Rugby League but for England Women to have the chance to test themselves against such a force would be monumental, especially on such a large stage.

Per AAP News, the NRL want to host a Women’s match and it seems that an international that draws in an English audience is the preferred option to an NRLW match. Their report also confirms the expectation that a Super League game will be played, with Warrington and Wigan the most likely teams involved as previously reported.

After being asked for comment regarding Super League or English involvement in Las Vegas, the RFL revealed: “The possibility of UK involvement in Las Vegas is one of a number of areas we have been discussing positively with the NRL in recent months.”

Paul Rowley recently claimed that Magic Weekend should be taken to Las Vegas but it seems that England Women will play there before Salford Red Devils.
