England Rugby League have announced the shirts that their three teams will wear for the next 18 months, including the men’s tests against Samoa this autumn and the Ashes tour against Australia in 2025.
In a new look for the nation’s rugby league team, the chevron is no more and they have instead taken a more simplistic and refined design which has been described as “distinctive” in its launch statement.
It’s a kit that will be worn by each of the Men, Women and Wheelchair teams in both 2024 and 2025 meaning that it will be donned for the upcoming autumn internationals and the Men and Women’s tour of Australia in 2025 when the Ashes are reignited.
The first of those Ashes tests for the Women will take place in Las Vegas on a day full of rugby league as two NRL games and Wigan Warriors versus Warrington Wolves takes place.
England’s Wheelchair side will be the first team to wear the new strip when they host France on Saturday, October 26th, just a day before the Men’s side host Samoa in Wigan as well.
A week later, the second of England’s games against Samoa will take place at Headingley with the Women’s clash with Wales also played on the same day.
Just yesterday, Shaun Wane unveiled his England Rugby League Performance squad that will meet to take on Samoa with two uncapped Wigan stars handed call-ups.
England Rugby League launch new look for Ashes tour
A statement from the RFL included comments from kit provider Oxen’s CEO, Lee Jenksinon, and Rugby League Commercial Managing Director Rhodri Jones.
Jenkinson said: “We are delighted with the new look for the England Rugby League Men, Women and Wheelchair teams for 2024/25. Having worked closely with RL Commercial and assessing feedback from fans, the decision was made to create a shirt that could span across this year’s Autumn internationals and the Ashes Tours against Australia in 2025.
“Feedback from fans was also a key aspect for the design and colours of this shirt. We are immensely proud at Oxen as a UK brand supporting our elite athletes at international level and believe the blend of colours and the design, leads to a very strong look for England in what is sure to be an exciting calendar over the next 18 months. We look forward to seeing the shirt proudly on display in the UK, USA and Australia!”
Jones added: “The next 18 months are going to be an exciting time for international Rugby League, beginning in just over seven weeks’ time when our Wheelchair team face France before the visit of Samoa. It promises to be an intense series with England Men hoping to avenge the bitter disappointment of their World Cup Semi Final defeat in November 2022.
“We can’t wait to see the thousands of passionate England fans in the stands wearing the new shirt both this year and next, especially as we have the Ashes Tours against Australia in 2025, which of course begins with a historic fixture in Las Vegas for England Women against the Jillaroos.”
