England player ratings v Australia as one man scores 4 in first Test defeat

England

Jack Welsby: Made an early error with a long pass into touch, held up Hudson Young over the line soon after half-time. 5

Dom Young: Some strong carries, but was tackled by Gehemat Shibasaki and lost possession on his one attacking chance.

Herbie Farnworth: Looked the England player most likely to make things happen; saved a try with an ankle-tap on Josh Addo-Carr. 7

Jake Wardle: Posed a threat in the first half; only some Reece Walsh brilliance prevented him putting Mikey Lewis; great tackle on Mark Nawaqanitawase in the late stages. 6

Tom Johnstone: Coped well with some testing high kicks, but should have backed himself, rather than kicking late in the first half. 6

George Williams: Tested the Aussies at times in the opening stanza, dropped the ball darting for the line early in the second half. 6

Mikey Lewis: The Aussie defence shut him down and he didn’t pose a threat. 5

Ethan Harvard: Didn’t do a lot wrong, but didn’t impose himself either. 5

Daryl Clark: Was steady in his first spell without creating anything, went over from close range for England’s only try late on. 5

Matty Lees: Similar to Havard, couldn’t get enough go-forward against a superior pack 5

John Bateman: Did a decent job defensively, but nothing outstanding with ball in hand. 5

Kai Pearce-Paul: Probably England’s best forward, got some nice offloads away. 6

Morgan Knowles: Some strong work defensively, though a couple of errors with the ball 6

Subs

Jez Litten: Conceded  two points with an off-the-ball tackle on the stroke of half-time, booted a 40-20 and generally did okay. 6

Alex Walmsley: Didn’t add much go-forward and Angus Crichton cruised past him for the Aussies’ second try. 4

Owen Trout: Came on soon after half-time for his England debut, but the game was already drifting away. 5

Mike McMeeken: Pepped things up when he came on in the first half, should start next time. 6

So, KYLE TROUT had a good debut. Shame that you got the wrong brother…………….
Wonder how OWEN TROUT did, after being named in the seventeen?
Oh!, obviously he did not play, but does he even exist?

If you think Walmesley was Englands worst player you can never be taken seriously again. Clueless comment.

England just not up to the speed of the Aussies they need to play more of the boys that play out here. I’d go with Brimson at fullback or at 14 he will create opportunities for people like Farnworth. Better luck next time fellas all us Aussies want to see a strong pommy side.
