England player ratings v Australia as one man scores 4/10 in 14-4 loss

England

England lost 14-4 against Australia at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Kangaroos claimed the series win.

Here’s our ratings.

AJ Brimson: No real attacking chances, but was steady, was taken out for the penalty which made it all square at the break. 6

Dom Young: Sin-binned inside the opening two minutes, went close twice in the opening 40, a couple of big efforts in defence. 6

Herbie Farnworth: Lovely pass almost put his winger in, but needed more quality ball. 7

Jake Wardle: Created an early chance for his winger; wasn’t really in the game after that, but did make a try-saving tackle on Hudson Young. 5

Tom Johnstone: Had an early chance snuffed out by Reece Walsh, couldn’t take a (poor) pass leading to the Aussies’ first try and didn’t deal with a kick for the second. 4

George Williams: Did some good things, but couldn’t create an opening and his poor pass led to the Aussies’ opening try. 5

Harry Smith: A few testing kicks, but didn’t get enough quality ball to the three-quarters. 5

Mike McMeeken: Really strong opening spell, won the penalty for England’s first goal. 7

Jez Litten: Was very good in the first half and certainly justified his start, though – like the team less effective after the break. 7

Matty Lees: Excellent opening 30-minute stint, particularly a huge hit on Angus Crichton. 8

Kai Pearce-Paul: Started well and did all right, but nothing spectacular. 6

Kallum Watkins: Played 80 minutes in his Test recall against the world’s best team, certainly didn’t let anyone down. 8

Morgan Knowles: Made some errors, including fumbled a chance in the opening quarter, but had a big dig defensively. 6

Subs

Mikey Lewis: Wasted on the bench, got on for the final 11 minutes. 5

Alex Walmsley: One knock-on, but had a stronger game than in the opening Test. 5

Morgan Smithies: His NRL experience showed, made an impact when he came on in the first half. 7

Mikolaj Oledzki: Got 16 minutes in the half, so no opportunity to impact the game. 5
