England 42-18 France Player Ratings: Wigan Warriors, Hull KR and NRL men the stand-out for Shaun Wane’s side

With a less than perfect display, England beat France all but securing their place in the quarter-finals.

Shaun Wane will want his side to get back to the standards of last week however when the finals come around but how did his team perform tonight.

1 Sam Tomkins – 6
After a difficult first half, Sam Tomkins came off to give Jack Welsby a chance at fullback. England were clunky in that first half not enabling Tomkins to shine. When he came back on, he was steady away.

14 Dom Young – 9
Another World Class performance from Young made by his second try. What was the most impressive thing about his performance was again his ability to make plenty of metres.

3 Kallum Watkins – 8
Before his injury, Watkins was making plenty of metres all game as he did last week and was a real threat. He won’t play against Greece but will be vital in the knockouts.

4 Herbie Farnworth – 8
A performance that lacked the perfection of his last performance in an England shirt but he still showed touches of class and dangerous runs.

5 Ryan Hall – 9
Like Young, he made plenty of metres and started sets brilliantly for England. He also scored two tries to add to his record tally.

7 George Williams – 8
Like last week, Williams was the glue in the England attack. He had some nice touches for England’s first two tries and continued to test the French defence with some smart runs.

21 Marc Sneyd – 7
A flawless night with the boot in terms of goal kicking. He might have wanted to do better with tactical kicks, but he did have some nice touches and an early assist.

8 Tom Burgess – 8
A destructive force up the middle of the field as he was last week. He got England off to a good start.

9 Michael McIlorum – 6
Nothing bad from McIlorum but, with less minutes than last week, his finger prints weren’t quite all over the win.

18 Chris Hill – 7
A strong performance up the middle from the Huddersfield Giants man. Nothing special, but the kind of showing that you can trust from him every week.

11 Elliot Whitehead – 7
Took his try well, got through plenty of work but didn’t shine quite as much as last week. More a comment on how good he generally is.

12 John Bateman – 8
Needing a big game to cement his place in the side moving forward, after a sluggish first half from England, it was his run and offload that turned the game for England. He also had a big involvement in Young’s first try.

13 Victor Radley – 8
A try and an assist for last week’s man of the match. He did his job as the heart of the England pack but didn’t quite dominate as much as last week.

Substitutes

10 Luke Thompson – 8
Destructive when he came on and a try scorer. Showed his class with what he did up the middle of the field.

6 Jack Welsby – 6
Showed his versatility playing fullback and centre. Got an assist but a shame to not see him starting or playing at fullback for very long.
