Over the weekend we saw some big fixtures as Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors and Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers and Leigh Leopards and Catalans Dragons all met in games that sparked a lot of debate.

None more so than the clash between Leigh and Catalans which sparked a lot of discussion around disciplinary and yellow and red cards.

Unsurprisingly, 25% of the 16 charges handed out from the game went to Catalans Dragons and a further two to Leigh Leopards.

Remarkably though half of the charges this weekend were for the same offence: Grade B Late Contact.

Seven of the players charged with this were fined except for Michael McIlorum who was banned for one game.

Though this may seem unfair, it is likely because of his previous record.

He escaped another ban for a dangerous tackle on Rob Mulhern meanwhile with the match review panel deeming that the penalty awarded was sufficient and thus he was not handed a further charge for the tackle during their win over the Leopards.
