The Man of Steel is the most prestigious individual honour in British rugby league, but it is also somewhat contentious.
For a long time the rules behind the award were questioned and even now that they have been changed to reflect the NRL’s Dally M Medal some still question the rules which perhaps favour a star player in a struggling side than those fighting for the Super League title.
The likes of Kevin Sinfield, Danny McGuire, Rob Burrow, Keiron Cunningham, Gareth Ellis and other have never won the honour and a modern Super League legend is among them in the shape of St Helens star Jonny Lomax.
Eddie Hemmings has expressed confusion over how Lomax has not won the award.
“I can’t understand why Jonny Lomax has never won the Man of Steel award. He’s been so consistent,” Hemmings said on The Last Tackle.
“Ever since he came into that side he has always been absolutely 100% committed and consistent.
