Eddie Hemmings believes the Leeds Rhinos job is down to two candidates

Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors

The Leeds Rhinos head coaching role has been a constant fixture on the rugby league horizon in recent weeks ever since Richard Agar stepped down.

The likes of Danny McGuire, Tony Smith and Danny Ward have all ruled themselves out whilst chief executive Gary Hetherington is currently in Australia talking to potential candidates.

Leeds themselves are in a bit of a pickle having won just one of their opening eight games in league and cup, so the next appointment is absolutely vital not only for the future but to just stay in the division itself.

For former Sky Sports pundit Eddie Hemmings, he believes the Leeds job is between two candidates – and they are both Australian.

“I don’t think Danny McGuire is the answer he’s only been in the job as an assistant coach for five minutes and he’s ruled himself out and Tony Smith has too,” Hemmings said on the Last Tackle podcast.

“It now seems to be between Ryan Carr at the Parramatta Eels and Shane Flanagan and I read that may well be looking to bring in his son Kyle as a package deal.

“However, this situation cannot go on at Leeds, they cant have a rudderless ship much longer.”

Leeds, of course, have this weekend off following their Challenge Cup exit at the hands of Castleford Tigers.
