The list for the Leeds Rhinos job seems to be growing by the day.
The likes of Danny Ward, Tony Smith, Danny McGuire and Ryan Carr have been linked to the job at Headingley, but former Sky Sports pundit Eddie Hemmings and former Super League star Adrian Morley have ruled out numerous of those mentioned.
Hemmings first of all explained those that have been mentioned.
“You’ve got Danny Ward, a former Leeds star who did a good job at London,” Hemmings said on the Last Tackle podcast.
“Ellery Hanley, he’s now coaching the International All Stars.
“Shaun Wane’s name has been linked, you think he’d have enough on trying to win the World Cup with England and rebuilding Wigan.
“But the big name from Australia is Ryan Carr – he was at Featherstone and took them to the Million Pound Game.
“If I was Gary Hetherington I’d be bold and be straight on the phone to Brian McDermott asking him to come back and sort this mess out, but I don’t think he will go down that route.
Former Leeds forward Morley ruled out some of those, however.
“In my opinion, Ellery Hanley has been at the top of the game for too long even though he is a legend.
“Brian McDermott is a funny one he’s the most successful Leeds Rhinos coach in their history, but I don’t know how it ended.
“I think it’s too early for Danny McGuire, he will make a first grade coach at some time.
“Danny Ward did a great job at London getting them into Super League.
“Shane Flanagan is an interesting one, he coached me at the (Sydney) Roosters but there is a lot of baggage with the doping scandal in Cronulla.
“I’d give Danny Ward a ring, he’s desperate to get back into the sport.”
