Morgan Knowles was given a five match ban last week for a hip drop tackle on Wigan Warriors’ Mike Cooper which ended his season.

However, the St Helens star won’t miss five Super League games.

Because England are set to play during that period and Knowles is in the England squad, he will serve one of his games that weekend.

Even if not picked for England he would be able to serve one game through the reserves that weekend.

Speaking on this on the Eddie and Stevo podcast, Eddie Hemmings said:

“I know in golf you play to the rules but blimey St Helens are using the rules here aren’t they?”

Stevo then described it as “a load of rubbish”:

“It’s a load of rubbish Eddie. I just cannot believe that the Super League is allowing something like that to happen.

“Look Mike Cooper’s out for the season, Knowles okay has been suspended but now he’s got to work that term. You can’t just fiddle and say ‘oh well he’s playing for England’ and all that sort of thing.

“That’s ridiculous, the sooner that the RFL and Super League get their heads together and get rid of these little farcical things that we try to do. I know they’ve done it for years and play them in reserve grade and whatever but as far as I’m concerned the reserve grade should not count.

“They’ve been doing it for years. I know that teams have organised an A team game so they can play and all that sort of thing.

“If you’re up in front of the disciplinary panel and they give you five matches then you get five matches. Simple! Let’s stop this stupidity.”
