Morgan Knowles was given a five match ban last week for a hip drop tackle on Wigan Warriors’ Mike Cooper which ended his season.
However, the St Helens star won’t miss five Super League games.
Because England are set to play during that period and Knowles is in the England squad, he will serve one of his games that weekend.
Even if not picked for England he would be able to serve one game through the reserves that weekend.
Speaking on this on the Eddie and Stevo podcast, Eddie Hemmings said:
“I know in golf you play to the rules but blimey St Helens are using the rules here aren’t they?”

Stevo then described it as “a load of rubbish”:
“It’s a load of rubbish Eddie. I just cannot believe that the Super League is allowing something like that to happen.
“Look Mike Cooper’s out for the season, Knowles okay has been suspended but now he’s got to work that term. You can’t just fiddle and say ‘oh well he’s playing for England’ and all that sort of thing.
“That’s ridiculous, the sooner that the RFL and Super League get their heads together and get rid of these little farcical things that we try to do. I know they’ve done it for years and play them in reserve grade and whatever but as far as I’m concerned the reserve grade should not count.
“They’ve been doing it for years. I know that teams have organised an A team game so they can play and all that sort of thing.
“If you’re up in front of the disciplinary panel and they give you five matches then you get five matches. Simple! Let’s stop this stupidity.”
Make the rules so you serve the disciplinary decision in the competition where you infringed.
Saints being cheeky or lucky with the rules, whatever next?
Saints, should hang their heads in shame, trying to work around any way possible to get around rules of the game, being picked for England when he is Suspended IS a complete JOKE, and abusing the sport! Then claiming a reserve game qualifies for one match? Super League/RFL must make it absolutely clear, this will not be accepted, and never will.
Stop talking rubbish, other teams have used these rules in the past and there was no big media outrage. It’s common practice for every team to do it,so stop singling out Saints.
Sounds like something a Saints supporter would say… desperately trying to defend the indefensible.
They did it for John Bateman during the World cup. Its not a new thing
Saints are the only team to do this are they ? No other team has ever done it before ? Of course they have,so why single out Saints this time ?
