Eddie and Stevo predict ex-Castleford Tigers star and Salford Red Devils assistant Danny Orr could head to this destination

With Danny Orr’s exit from the Salford Red Devils one of the most surprising pieces of news to come out of 2022 so far, there has been predictions about where his future may lie beyond this season.

Orr has been assistant at the AJ Bell Stadium since joining the club ahead of the 2021 Super League season, but will depart at the end of 2022, Rugby League Live previously reported.

The diminutive figure began and ended his career with hometown club Castleford Tigers, debuting in 1997 as an 18-year old.

The halfback was a revelation for the Tigers in the seven seasons he spent in West Yorkshire before he moved to Wigan at the end of 2003.

A livewire halfback – who could also operate at hooker – Orr played 191 times for Castleford in his first stint, scoring 71 tries and kicking 196 goals and four drop-goals. He helped bring the Tigers within 80 minutes of both the Super League Grand Final and the Challenge Cup Final in 1999 under the tutelage of Australian legend Stuart Raper.

At the end of his third season with the Warriors, Orr was sold to Harlequins RL in October 2006. His three years at Wigan had yielded 20 tries and 14 goals in 70 appearances, yet despite some good performances, the halfback never really settled at the Lancashire club.

After four seasons in London, Orr rejoined Castleford as a 32-year-old to partner livewire Rangi Chase in the halves.

In two seasons, Orr played 52 times, scoring 16 tries and kicking 31 goals before moving into coaching.

As assistant to both Ian Millward and Daryl Powell, the former halfback left the Jungle for good at the end of 2021 to take up a role alongside Richard Marshall at the AJ Bell Stadium.

However, ex-Sky Sports hosts Eddie Hemmings and Mike ‘Stevo’ Stephenson, believe that Orr could be heading for rugby union.

“The timing seems strange because it’s suddenly going really well for Salford,” Eddie said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast.

“We will he to wait and see where he will go but he’s a talent,” Stevo added.

“I wonder if he has anything lined up, he must have. I wonder whether Danny Orr is on his way to rugby union.”

Only time will tell, but hopefully Orr will stay in rugby league as he is a massive asset to the 13-a-side code.
