Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves are struggling in 2022.
Both are out of the Challenge Cup at the first hurdle whilst Leeds have won just one Super League game and Warrington three.
The Rhinos have already experienced a change in head coach with Richard Agar stepping down, whilst new Warrington boss Daryl Powell was met with boos at the final whistle of the Wolves’ loss to Wakefield Trinity last weekend.
For former Sky Sports pundits Eddie Hemmings and Mike ‘Stevo’ Stephenson, the players should take more responsibility for the failings so far this campaign.
“A lot of people thought Warrington, with Daryl Powell taking over, they would be one of the favourites to get to the Grand Final, but it hasn’t worked out,” Stevo said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast.
“Leeds were touted because they had bought many players and they have got good experienced players but Richard Agar was straight to the point and said ‘I’ve lost the players and they need a new voice’.
“They’ve had a new voice with Jamie Jones-Buchanan and obviously he hasn’t been good enough yet.
“But, the players should take a look at in the mirror and say maybe we’re not good enough.
“Maybe the Warrington players should do the same and maybe it’s their fault not the coaches.
“They are not playing to the top of their form and they’ve got to start getting themselves together.”
Hemmings continued: “Daryl Powell was booed off the field at the end and he’s admitted it is tough to take and it is proving a bigger challenge than he first thought.”
