Early ticket sales impress for Super League Magic Weekend

Magic Weekend

Early ticket sales have highlighted the popularity of Super League Magic Weekend returning to Newcastle for 2025.

Magic Weekend strayed away from its spiritual home of St James Park in 2024 with scheduling issues preventing Super League from heading to the North East as it has so often done in recent years.

Instead, the event headed to Leeds with Elland Road hosting the two-day event and to the dismay of many fans. Initial response to Elland Road being confirmed as a venue was lacklustre and even negative, something that was then reflected in the official attendance figures.

The 2024 Magic Weekend marked the second-lowest attendance during the event’s history with the Sunday marking the smallest-ever daily attendance.

It was quickly confirmed that a number of other venues would be considered for the 2025 edition of Magic Weekend with both Paris and Dublin even mentioned as possibilities but it was confirmed recently that Super League would return to the North East.

Since Newcastle’s St James Park was announced as the venue for 2025 less than three weeks ago, there has been an early surge in ticket sales with Super League now revealing that over 10,000 tickets for Magic Weekend 2025 have been sold.

A statement from Super League confirmed that: “Over 10,000 tickets have been sold in the opening two-week sales window”, a hugely positive figure that reflects the passion for the event still remains just so long as a good venue is selected.

St James Park offers city access which is something that Elland Road famously does not, perhaps one of the reasons why attendance dipped so much in 2024.

Fans can still take advantage of 20% off offers for Super League Magic Weekend tickets for 2025 with the event set to celebrate its 18th birthday next year.

The major fixture on the two-day slate that is the 3rd and 4th of May is Sunday’s clash between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, whilst Saturday night is rounded off by St Helens taking on Leeds Rhinos.

Wakefield’s return to Super League sees them face off against local rivals Castleford Tigers, a game that rounds off the weekend with its 5:30 pm kick-off on Sunday.

Leigh Leopards and Catalans Dragons will kick affairs off on Saturday at 3 pm with Hull KR versus Salford Red Devils (Saturday) and Huddersfield Giants versus Hull FC (Sunday) being the other two fixtures.
