Early return to the NRL for Rhinos marquee signing?

Sporting News in Australia are reporting that Trent Merrin could return to St George Illawarra for the 2020 season, despite signing a four-year deal with Leeds in November.

The Dragons are interesting in bringing the 29-year-old back to the club should they need to replace Jack de Belin.

De Belin is currently part of a live court case and will miss the first month of the season after dropping an injunction bid against the NRL.

Should the circumstances be that he cannot return to the club, the Dragons will turn to their former star Merrin who is unsettled in England.

Having arrived at Leeds from Penrith for big money prior to this season, the former Kangaroos international has struggled for form under David Furner.

After a difficult start to the campaign, the Rhinos sit joint bottom of the Super League table with just one win from six matches.

Merrin made his name at St George and was part of the Dragons team that won the 2010 Premiership and the 2011 World Club Challenge.
