Early predictions for the opening round of Super League 2023

The opening game of the 2023 Super League season is just two weeks ago.

That opening game sees Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos meet in a repeat of the 2012 Grand Final.

So, with two months to go, here our early predictions for the opening round which doesn’t include Champions St Helens or Ian Watson’s Huddersfield Giants due to St Helens’ involvement in the World Club Challenge.

Warrington Wolves 18-16 Leeds
This is very tough to call. Two sides with hopes of making the play-offs, the Wolves will be hoping their big signings can be the difference here. In the end home advantage may see them edge it.

Wakefield Trinity 16-22 Catalans Dragons
Wakefield Trinity will undoubtedly cause problems to the Dragons revitalised by the appointment of Mark Applegarth and some exciting signings and helped on by their home advantage but the Dragons may have just too much for them.

Leigh Leopard 18-26 Salford Red Devils
This could be one of the games of the round as a star-studded Leigh side take on a Salford side who have every chance of finishing in the top four in the 2023 season. In the end, the likes of Brodie Croft could be the difference.

Hull KR 12-22 Wigan Warriors
After an injury hit 2022 season, the Robins will again be an exciting proposition this year but against Matt Peet’s Warriors they might just come up short live on Channel 4.

Hull FC 28-24 Castleford Tigers
Two teams with hopes of making the top six, this is almost too close to call and in the end home advantage could be the difference on this occasion.
