‘Dumb’ – What Luke Robinson said in blast of Huddersfield after Hull FC loss

Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson

Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson criticised his team’s mistakes, describing them as ‘really dumb’.

The Giants were the better side throughout most of the match but Hull FC did just enough to come out on top with an 11-10 victory.

Robinson was pleased with his side’s effort once again but bemoaned some of their game management decisions.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: “I feel like I’m a bit of a broken record if I’m being honest. It’s come to the last sort of 15 minutes of the game again.

“I just thought we were really dumb.

“The effort was outstanding once again but we’re 10-4 up, we’re on their goal line and we don’t need to score. We don’t need to do anything, we just need to control field position and we were dominating it for the majority of that game.

“All we’ve got to do is run the ball in the corner, kick it in the corner, and make them come out, which they were struggling to.”

He admitted that the Giants were the better team for the most part but praised Hull for taking their opportunities.

He continued: “They didn’t look like breaching our line really if I’m being honest.

“We threw an interception, they go the full length and then obviously, we go for the one point, miss the one point and Sezer goes down there and slots it home.

“We know Sezer’s quality and he’s done that many times throughout his career.”

Robinson was a dejected figure in front of the camera and thought they should’ve sewn up a win in that game.

He added: “Look, the effort and desire was once again sensational from us and I genuinely think we dominated that game for vast majorities of it.

“But I just thought our game management at the back end in the heat of the battle when it really matters, I just thought we were dumb.”

He touched on Joe Greenwood, who went off towards the back end of the first half, with what looks like a pretty serious knee injury.

Robinson said: “It doesn’t look too pretty at this moment in time so obviously, we’ll assess him and see how he goes.

“Hopefully, we get some bodies back on board in the next couple of weeks, which will hopefully help us, but we get some back and then we lose some but that’s rugby league.”

Huddersfield face a trip to Wigan Warriors next week and head coach Luke Robinson said his side needs to fix those errors if they have a chance of beating them.

He added: “It’s never a good time to play Wigan, we’ve just got to get our own game right.

“We were brilliant for vast majorities of the game where we dominated field position, the game was in the grasp of our hands.

“We were the masters of our own downfall and that’s what I’m so disappointed about tonight. The game was ours.”
