Duffy happy with Leigh runout

Leigh Centurions Head Coach John Duffy says he was happy with his sides performance during their 25-24 win over St Helens.

It was the first time Leigh had played since their Challenge Cup defeat at Hull KR last March, and they only had 19 available players for this game.

New signings Ryan Brierley, Jamie Ellis and Joe Mellor all impressed for the Centurions.

Duffy said:”I think that was the most pleasing thing. 90-per-cent of the squad haven’t played for 12 months and it was pleasing to see them play.

“We knew we would be rusty, but we are pleased to see the boys have a good dig with each other. The only bad thing is a few injuries.

“Junior Sa’u came off with his knee, Matty Gee failed a head test and Craig Mullen did his groin near the end. We only had 19 available today, we need to look after everyone ahead of Thursday.

“We are pleased with everyone. We haven’t been able to do 13 v 13 in training, we only have 29 players, so it was good to get out there.”
