Door open for new Leeds Rhinos head coach

Ryan Carr will not be the assistant coach at the Wests Tigers, paving the way for a potential Super League move to the Leeds Rhinos.

Veteran coach Shane Flanagan has rejected the role as second-in-command to Michael Maguire, whilst Carr is thought to be out of the running in favour of Nathan Cayless and Ben Gardiner – Maguire’s assistant coaches at New Zealand.

Flanagan was thought to be in the running as a serious candidate for the role, but he notified Wests that he is not interested in the position.

Meanwhile, Cayless spent last season with the Sydney Roosters staff while Gardiner was head coach of Western Suburbs in the NSW Cup.

Carr has been linked with a move to the Rhinos as a potential reshuffle could take place in the backroom staff with current head coach Richard Agar expecting to take a more backseat role in 2022.

But, whilst some media avenues have dismissed the idea of Carr returning to the UK, the speculation continues to do the rounds.
