Dolphins and Wayne Bennett also hunting Kalyn Ponga’s Newcastle Knights teammate

The Dolphins and Wayne Bennett are not only hunting Kalyn Ponga from the Newcastle Knights.

They are also keeping tabs on 22-year-old prop Mat Croker, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Croker has played just four top-grade games but is a NSW under-20s representative and is currently recovering from a broken jaw.

The Knights went down 30-6 to the Manly Sea Eagles yesterday and most questions in the post-match press conference were focused on Ponga’s meeting with Bennett earlier in the week.

However, the Newcastle livewire shrugged off suggestions that the contract saga had distracted him and his teammates.

“I’m just trying to handle what’s on the field,” Ponga said after his loss.

“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but every time you ask me I don’t give you an answer. So stay patient, I’ve got people that (are) working on it.

“Once (the meeting) happened I moved on and worried about the game.

“For me now, my next focus is reviewing the game, recovering and going into next week.”

The Knights face a nervous wait on winger Dominic Young after the England man was forced off the field with a knee injury.
