Chris Chester spoke out about the difficulties he and Wakefield’s players have had to overcome in recent days following their 48-18 victory over Hull KR.
It was a second consecutive win for Trinity and the perfect response to reports of unrest in the camp between Chester and his players.
A newspaper article emerged last week suggesting there would be a ‘player revolt’ if Chester wasn’t sacked following a run of 10 consecutive defeats.
However, there have been no signs of discord over the last five days with the hammering of Rovers backing up their gutsy win over Huddersfield on Thursday.
Speaking after Sunday’s game against the Robins, Chester said: “What myself and the players have found tough is when the integrity is questioned.
“It has been tough on me but more on the players because we are not aware of where this reporter has come from and why he probably feels the need to write stuff like that about me, the chairman and the group.”
He continued: “It is not about me, it is about the players. They have put in a really good effort over the last 12 to 14 weeks and things have not gone the way we would have hoped.
“The one good thing about this group is the togetherness, irrespective of the mischief people want to make about me or the club, the one thing we have here is that togetherness.
“It was evident tonight. It was nice to put in another good performance in such a short turnaround.”
Wakefield’s impressive display at the Mobile Rocket Stadium saw them post their biggest score of the season, while also leapfrogging their opponents off the bottom of the Super League table.
A delighted Chester added: “We tinkered with the team a little bit. When you think back to Easter, it is never normally the second game that catches you out, it is generally that third game which is low quality.
“We are fortunate we have a few bodies that can freshen the team up on Thursday then we have another mini-Easter period coming up.
“I am just really pleased for everybody at the club, especially the players, and it is nice not to be sat rooted at the bottom of the league.
“It is nice that the players are fighting really hard for the results and we can take a lot of positives out of that performance today.”
