‘Diving and cheating’ claims from angry fans and Freddie Mercury look alike spotted at Huddersfield – How social media reacted to last night’s rugby

Friday night saw last year’s Grand Finalists maintain their 100% record so far this season. Wigan vanquished Castleford in a titanic battle between two previously undefeated teams. Then St Helens put Huddersfield to the sword despite a valiant effort from the Giants. That’s how I saw it at least. But how did you see it? Let’s look at how social media reacted to last night’s rugby.

The Warriors, despite being involved in a real contest, lit up the night with some superb rugby as the combination between Jackson Hastings and Bevan French picked up where it left off last season.

Even Hastings was happy to see French alongside him – albeit on the wing to allow the impressive Zak Hardaker to remain at fullback.

And the Wigan fanbase were just as pleased.

Despite the quality of the duo, it was Sam Powell who wrapped up the game for the Warriors from an impossible position.

Unsurprisingly, Cas fans were less than pleased blaming ill-discipline for the defeat.

However, some of the Tigers faithful believed there were positive signs despite the loss.

In last night’s other game, St Helens secured a fourth win of the season away at Huddersfield owing to a dominant first half performance.

Some Saints fans were apparently not too taken by their style of play and they weren’t alone as neutrals criticised it to.

However my personal highlight on social media was the widespread and in-depth discussion over Jon Wilkin’s new facial hair.
