A surprising story has emerged this morning down under.
After playing his part in an alleged incident with England star Victor Radley at the end of the Rugby League World Cup, James Bentley is reportedly “seeking” a move to the NRL according to Fox League.
Bentley starred for Ireland in the Rugby League World Cup and has spent just one season at Leeds Rhinos.
He was impressive as he helped the Rhinos to a Grand Final in his first season after helping St Helens to three consecutive Grand Finals but only playing in the 2020 decider against Wigan Warriors missing out in 2021 with injury which was also the case for that year’s Challenge Cup Final.
The Rhinos fended off interest from the NRL to sign Bentley in the first place and it seems that a move could now be on the cards however there seems to be a sticking point with NRL clubs unsure of his discipline especially after Bentley was sent off 16 minutes into his Leeds debut against Warrington.
“He was offered to us and we looked into him; there’s no doubt he can play,” an NRL coach told WWOS.
“But his discipline is his undoing and that’s why we decided to steer clear of him.
“Another club may decide to take the risk, though.”
