Last night, despite a valiant effort, Hull FC succumbed to a third consecutive defeat.
The Black and Whites were unlucky against the Saints and could have won the game against the Super League and World Champions when a lovely play down the left saw Adam Swift kicked inside and Brad Dwyer had the ball in front of him and the line at his mercy only for the former Leeds Rhinos hooker to fumble the ball.
So Hull were widely unlucky but they were perhaps lucky to keep 13 men on the field against the Champions as Brian Carney suggested that Ligi Sao could have been sent off with a yellow card.
He asked: “Should Hull FC have been down to 12 men? Last week Paul Wellens was fuming at the Matty Lees yellow card, was this the same?
Phil Clarke said of the matter that he expects the disciplinary panel will be looking at it:
“I think it is. I think it is a poor tackle from Ligi Sao. The disciplinary committee might be taking a look at that.”
Meanwhile, Terry O’Connor said Sao was lucky to stay on the field:
“It is one of them, he knows he has got it wrong has Ligi Sao and he is lucky to stay on the field for those next 10 minutes.
“You can see in it, there wasn’t much real intent in it but really, really lucky.”
In light of Matty Lees’ yellow card last week, Carney added: “Well Paul Wellens might have something to say about that.”
