It was an action packed round of Super League this past few days with six brilliant games, including three on television featuring St Helens versus Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC before Channel 4 treated us to Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards.
There was only one yellow card showed across all six games but there were plenty of other incidents including a slap from Liam Farrell towards Zak Hardaker whilst Morgan Knowles and Richie Myler got into it on Friday night.
The RFL have now convened and the Match Review Panel has come back with their findings as to who has been charged.
Following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:
Joe Wardle (Leigh Leopards) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – £250 Fine
Alex Foster (Castleford Tigers) – Grade B High Tackle – £250 Fine
Sam Stone (Salford Red Devils) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – £250 Fine
Whilst the number of players charged this week is smaller than usual, a number of players were still cited by the panel.
The clash at the Totally Wicked Stadium led to several citings, with players on both sides being named by the panel. For the Saints, James Bell was cited four times, including two for dangerous contact. Morgan Knowles saw his name appear on the panel’s list for causing a melee, and the same reason was given for Matty Lees.
The Rhinos also saw their fair share of the panel this week as Cameron Smith was cited twice, and Richie Myler, too, was put on the list. Both players were also cited for causing a melee. Aidan Sezer was also cited for a high tackle.
Elsewhere in the league, George Griffin was cited twice as his side fell to yet another defeat against Hull KR. Kai Pearce-Paul also made the list twice after his sides emphatic win over Challenge Cup finalists Leigh Leopards at the ‘Battle of the Borough’, and his teammate Kaide Ellis saw his name appear twice on the panel’s list following the match on Saturday.
Liam Farrell was another Wiganer cited by the match review panel, after he made contact with Zak Hardaker’s face.
