Dewsbury sign former Leeds academy back

Dewsbury have announced the signing of young utility back Reece Chapman-Smith for 2021.

The 22-year-old cut his teeth in the Leeds Rhinos development system, graduating through the scholarship side and becoming a standout in their academy squad.

ACL and shoulder injuries hampered his progress at the Rhinos but he showed promise last year after signing for Halifax, scoring two tries in 10 games, as well as making a further six appearances on dual-registration with Hunslet.

“I rate Reece highly and when we saw he was available we moved quickly to get him,” said Rams head coach Lee Greenwood. “He will provide good competition at full back for us but can play anywhere in the back positions.

“He seems to play well in any game I’ve watched him in, including against us last year for Halifax.

“I spoke to him about joining us when he left Leeds a couple of years ago so he is someone I have followed for a while.”
