Details of Justin Holbrook’s lucrative deal with Warrington Wolves revealed

Super League boss

It was reported late last night that former St Helens boss Justin Holbrook had been made an offer by Warrington Wolves to take over as their head coach, that came Daryl Powell’s dismissal late on Sunday evening.

Powell was sacked following a run of six straight defeats in a run of form that saw Wire win just three of their twelve games, slipping from top of the table to on the brink of the playoffs in sixth.

Sunday’s hammering against bottom of the table Wakefield Trinity was the last game under Powell leaving him with just 21 wins in 50 games, among the worst win rates ever at the club, bringing to an end a disappointing 18 months.

The search for a coach quickly started though with former St Helens boss Justin Holbrook believed to be the team’s first choice and it was reported by the Daily Telegraph that Warrington were one of six teams to meet with Holbrook. That also included an unnamed Super League side.

It’s since been reported by The Mole of Wide World of Sports that Holbrook has been made an offer for the job, as stated by his manager, with the Mole tweeting this.

The use of the hashtag ‘#willtakeit’ implies that the Mole knows a lot more than he’s letting on and that could be because the deal is done.

Legendary commentator Andrew Voss tweeted late last night for SEN that a contract had been offered and he even revealed the details of it.

Tweeting from the ‘SEN Breakfast with Vossy & Brandy’ account, he tweet reads in full:

“BREAKING | @AndrewVossy reports: I’m hearing Justin Holbrook has signed a four-year deal at @WarringtonRLFC. Believed to be a lucrative contract that includes big bonuses built in for trophies won.”

It doesn’t confirm whether Holbrook is to take over effective immediately but given the fact that the Wolves are still in the playoffs and could still challenge for silverware, it would mean that the quicker Holbrook gets in the building then the better chance they will have.

For now interim head coach Gary Chambers will lead the team against Catalans Dragons on Friday.
