Derek Beaumont threatened a real ‘mess’ in rugby league with legal action

Derek Beaumont owner of Leigh Centurions applauds the home supporters after seeing his team win for the first time this season

Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont is known for his outspoken views in rugby league.

And, when he threatened legal action ahead of his side’s relegation from Super League, he was met with divided opinion.

However, it appears as though Beaumont has decided not to proceed with legal action because it could “have caused a mess” in the sport.

Beaumont said: “Didn’t take advice on that Andrew what has that got to do with me? Both teams have the right to go up but I could have legally challenged relegation and obtained an injunction would have caused a mess in game which is bigger than my club we will just go again and keep working!”

Leigh were relegated from the top flight with just two wins to their name all season after Beaumont had managed to convince the governing body of the club’s ability to survive in Super League following the demise of the Toronto Wolfpack.
