Derek Beaumont takes aim at Warrington Wolves and Sam Burgess with brutal tweet

Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has taken to social media to poke fun at Sam Burgess and Warrington Wolves following Friday night’s meeting. The Leopards edged out Warrington 16-12 at the Leigh Sports Village to move up to fifth in the Super League table with just three more games remaining,

The result left Warrington’s hopes of winning the League Leaders’ Shield in tatters, with Sam Burgess’ side now four points behind top of the table outfit Hull KR. After the game, though, Burgess outlined his belief that the match may have gone very differently had Paul Vaughan not been shown a red card in just the 11th minute of the contest.

The prop was dismissed for what was deemed to be a dangerously high tackle on Leigh’s Owen Trout and that left the Wolves a man down for the majority of the game. The head coach described the decision as ’embarrassing’ before pointing to ‘theatrics’.

It’s a decision that has had many rugby league fans agreeing with Burgess on social media, but Beaumont has posted a message to tease those of a primrose and blue persuasion this afternoon.

“Just found this outside Leigh Sports Village if anyone knows who might have lost it,” the owner wrote on X alongside a picture of himself holding up a children’s dummy.

Derek Beaumont is partial to a wind up on social media and it’s understandable that he would be revelling in Friday’s result, of course, given the manner of the victory.

Adrian Lam’s side had to dig deep on the night to get over the line against the Wolves, but they had enough to pick up their fourth successive win and move up to fifth in the Super League table, leapfrogging Catalans Dragons and St Helens prior to their games this weekend.

With three games still to play, the Leopards still have work to do but they’ll be feeling confident about their chances of claiming a play-off spot next month.
