Derek Beaumont is prepared for Leigh Leopards to start the season with seven or eight losses.
In fact he says he is prepared to lose to Hull KR and St Helens almost writing them off.
This comes as he spoke on the Red Robins podcast ahead of Leigh’s clash with the Robins.
Of the season, he said: “We come there and I know it’s going to be very tough. I’m quite prepared to be three and zero. I know we’ve them got St Helens coming after that, I’m quite prepared for four and zero. We then go to Warrington and then your neighbours Hull FC, and we then get Wigan here.
“We could be seven or eight games without a win but we stick together and we don’t crack under it. Adrian’s aware and the players are aware, we just keep working hard. I think if you do lose, it’s the manner in which you lose and the performance that gives the fans something.”
He also gave his take on Leigh boss Adrian Lam and what he is doing with the squad:
“I’ve spoke with Mal Meninga at lengths when he was over on his pre-planning before the World Cup. Lammy sits as an assistant for a World Cup winning coach, Chris Chester has obviously got a lot of experience . We’ve got some good people in and around it.
“A lot of people have lost sight of the fact we’ve got 13 new players in our squad, that’s not ideal. We’ve had a lot of changes, which we knew so there’s no complaints. At this moment in time it is about being defensively strong and robust, the attack will come but it’s the newness of it. We want to build something strong.”
Lam has recently brought in one of his former Wigan players Joe Shorrocks to the side on loan.
On this Beaumont said:
“Lammy gave him his debut over at Wigan, he likes him and he’s a tough player. He’s someone that I always thinks stands out, but he’s a tough lad and he gives us that added player and another option that can go nine or 13 maybe from the bench. At this point I don’t know which way he’ll go.
