Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has said he will “legally fight” for Hull FC to be relegated from Super League if they finish bottom of the table.
Hull FC moved bottom yesterday after a 58-4 defeat to Salford Red Devils was enough to move their points difference below that of London Broncos, who themselves came close to victory over Catalans Dragons.
It’s the second time they’ve slipped below the Broncos, and they did, of course, lose twice to Mike Eccles’ side this year, including at Magic Weekend.
This was a heavy defeat this weekend, but it’s not their biggest: they lost 58-0 to St Helens in April, and slightly less devastating defeats include 50-6 and 56-22 to Huddersfield Giants within the space of a couple of weeks around the same time.
However, the worst defeat was a 68-6 defeat to Leeds Rhinos last week.
Derek Beaumont says he will “legally fight” for Hull FC to be relegated
Under the new IMG system of determining who stays in Super League, it’s widely expected that Hull FC have never been close to losing their spot in the league, especially as, under the indicative grading, London Broncos found themselves 24th – meaning no chance of being in the top-tier in 2025.
Now, it looks like there’s a real possibility of them being relegated despite not finishing bottom – that’s if they can avoid losing by more than Hull FC next week.
Now, Derek Beaumont has had yet another anti-Hull FC rant on Twitter, this time going perhaps further than ever before.
Responding to a Hull FC fan, he said: “I face challenges! That said no Myler or Pearson at LSV (Leigh Sports Village) this year!
“I haven’t gone from being a top club to bottom I’ve come from outside the league to being above you both years and winning a trophy!
“I hope I am not at FC as I expect they get relegated if finishing bottom which I think they will! I will legally fight for that if it happens!”
It’s unclear as to how he would “legally fight” for Hull FC to go down, as clubs agreed to use IMG’s system this year, so Black and Whites fans don’t need to worry about this.
However, his attitude is shared by many people who feel it’s unfair that Hull FC have put very little into this campaign and will stay up, while London Broncos, competing on a shoe-string playing budget, have beaten, or come close to beating, much better sides on paper.
