Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has responded to reports that Super League sides are ‘circling’ Salford to sign players and relieve their cash-flow problem.

Reports of Salford’s latest financial difficulties came last week from Rugby League Live who revealed that a meeting had been set up among Super League officials, at which the Red Devils would ask for a cash advance.

The Red Devils responded to that initial report, disputing certain issues but generally confirming the story as well as the fact that a verdict on that meeting will be heard on Monday (today).

Salford have previously sold players as well as shares in the club to try and raise money and now the latest Rugby League Live report claims that Super League clubs are circling, looking to sign players from the Red Devils to bolster themselves and aid Salford’s financial situation.

Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has since responded, taking issue with the use of the term ‘circling’.

Are Super League clubs ‘circling’ or ‘helping’ Salford?

Beaumont reacted on social media, where he has been very busy lately considering he was calling out the UFC Heavyweight Champion of the world only last week.

This time he was sticking to rugby league though as he argued that many Super League clubs have finished their recruitment so taking players from Salford would be seen as ‘help’, rather than ‘circling’.

Beaumont posted: “Matt most clubs recruitment is done by now! Maybe they aren’t circling but rather trying to help? I don’t know as I am not one of them.

“Clearly it’s a tough time like I had in 2018 and had to decimate. I never saw it as circling but an opportunity for me to survive. I hope Salford do.”

As referenced, Leigh were forced to the brink with their financial situation and it would be devastating to see the same happen to Salford.

The sale of players would undoubtedly raise funds but at the likely cost of a strong final season under Paul Rowley’s leadership. The situation will yield more clarity once today’s a verdict on Salford’s request of an advance has been heard.
