Leigh Leopards have been the real success story of Super League in 2023.
Newly promoted, the star studded Leopards are right in the play-off mix at this stage and are odds on to make the Challenge Cup semi-finals after drawing Championship side in the quarter-finals.
Before the season started owner Derek Beaumont underlined his ambition to see the club at Wembley or Old Trafford:
“This role does give me a lot of stress. Would that time every come (for me to leave)? Well, if I’m honest this is my biggest shot at it right now.
“I’m hoping now we can get on with what I am really in the game for, and that’s to walk out with Leigh at Wembley or Old Trafford – or both at some point in my life.
“I love the game but I struggle to watch it. It’s so difficult at times to watch it, to watch our team make errors, to watch the officials make errors and then watch the other team capitalise on that.
“It is hard to watch, so I don’t know if I would be able to watch the game if we got to a major final.
“The dream this year for me at Wembley is to watch the 1895 Cup Final, which my company sponsors, then take that tie off and put on my team tie and watch Leigh play in a Challenge Cup Final – that is the dream.”
He has now revealed his predictions for silverware in 2023 backing Leigh or rivals Wigan Warriors to lift the Challenge Cup.
Beaumont said on Twitter:
“My Predictions 2023:
1. 1895 Cup: Halifax Panthers
2. The Challenge Cup: Can’t call it, either Wigan Warriors or Leigh Leopards
3. Super League Grand Final: St Helens”
