Derek Beaumont believes Leigh Leopards can end 2025 with memories of another trophy win to cherish. The Leopards have consistently exceeded expectations since stepping up from the Championship to Super League and after winning the Challenge Cup in 2023, they managed to reach the play-off semi-finals last time around.
It’s been an off-season of change at Leigh Sports Village, with 10 new signings being made to replace the raft of outgoing personnel, with several fan favourites moving on. Despite that, though, Beaumont is approaching the new campaign with bags of belief regarding what Adrian Lam’s side can achieve this time around.
“Do I want to win the Challenge Cup this year? 100 per cent,” Beaumont told Leigh Leopards’ official site. “Do I think we can win the Challenge Cup this year? 100 per cent I believe we can.
“Do I think we can go to Wigan in round one and win? 100 per cent I do because I think we have a special group of people that care and want to work together.
“We’re under no illusions that every other club is doing something similar and saying similar things and why shouldn’t they? It’s about belief, belief in yourself. I’ve got to believe right from the top.
“Our fans have got to believe and more importantly our players have got to believe and they have to believe in themselves, the person beside them, behind them and in front of them.”
The Leopards are currently away in Lanzarote on a pre-season training camp, but they now know their first competitive game of the season in the third round of the Challenge Cup will be against Workington Town, the Royal Navy or Mirfield. They get their Super League campaign underway a few days later against Wigan Warriors, with Lam’s side travelling to the Brick Community Stadium to face last year’s quadruple winners.
