Derek Beaumont hits out at fan on social media after bizarre comparison

Derek Beaumont is one of the main characters in rugby league.

Without the Leigh owner, the sport would be in a worse place with his determination to not mince his words often the reason for getting him into trouble.

However, Beaumont’s ability to interact with fans on social media can be seen as bridge between owner and the sport’s fraternity – making that link that has so often been missing in rugby league in the past.

Beaumont’s side Leigh won their first Super League of the season last weekend, triumphing 32-22 over rivals Salford Red Devils, but the outspoken chairman is keen to see something happen to the sport – and quickly.

“There needs to be some changes with the rules,” Beaumont said.

“We need to stop micro-analysing games and then getting players pulled in afterwards on what someone has looked at on a video which wasn’t seen on the field of play.

“It makes players frightened of playing and doing things.”

And, the Leigh owner took to social media to discuss his plans further, though one poor soul did get in the way of Beaumont’s humour.
