Derek Beaumont hits back at criticism

Derek Beaumont

Earlier this week, Derek Beaumont showed his amazing character as he often does.

The Leigh Leopards owner provided a message of support and good luck to Bedford High School after their Year 7 team made it to Wembley.

He said:

“Amazing effort seizing the opportunity they created to do what most professional players don’t get to. Grace the Wembley field! Deserved win and respect to St Peter’s who must be heartbroken they have many years to complete the task. Enjoy the moment and what a moment.”

Like the likes of Kevin Sinfield before them, they could be stars of the future with many Super League players having played at Wembley in the traditional Year 7 Final.

Speaking of stars of the future, Beaumont subsequently came in for some criticism from fans for the Leopards’ lack of an academy.

However, Beaumont hit back at this criticism revealing that the club are doing all they can but you “can’t invest” in a bank that won’t let you.

He said:

“You can’t invest in a bank that won’t let you open an account! It’s wrong to criticise the club. We are on a Journey now with the RFL regarding this which we hope will enable us to open that account and invest in an academy soon. Until then we will support the best we can.”
