Derek Beaumont calls out people for their approach to him on social media

Derek Beaumont should be praised for how active he is on social media.

Few club owners in any sport are as engaging on social media as he is and he is always pushing his club to a wider audience on social media.

However, even he struggles with it at times.

Notably there was what he described as a “horrendous howler” when he tweeted at Steve Prescott MBE last week but also he has spoken about the discussions he has had with fans on social media to with IMG with many missing the point in his opinion:

“I think a lot of people are a little bit misguided by what the whole IMG thing is. It’s as if they are who we’re all answerable to as well,” Beaumont said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast.

“I have a bit of a laugh on social media, but people then take it too serious. I’m just trying to get engagement but what I get back is ‘I bet IMG think this, blah blah blah.”

“IMG are here as consultants, they are a partner. They have a wealth of experience and they have got assets we could never dream of affording and that’s just consultants, let alone anything else.

“People also need to remember that they only generate income for themselves out of growth, so if they don’t grow the game, they don’t generate anything. We have a great opportunity.

“We aren’t hearing much from IMG at the moment, but I believe they will come forward with a full rebrand when they are ready and I think it will explosive.”

He went on to further explain his stance on social media and standing up for what is right:

“I’m never going to please all the people all the time. I’m not bothered about all the people on social media if I’m honest. I just want to stand up for what is right.

“I like to support things that people struggle with, I like to combat adversity, to help people and be charitable.

“I would love to be able to support all the clubs financially, but I can’t. My passion is in this town and with this club.

“That’s me, is you ask me something I’ll tell you straight and if people don’t like that, well that’s their problem to deal with, not mine.”
